It’s a matter of wife and death: man-as-poet-musician loses beloved wife. He makes a pact with Love to sing her back to life. But there is one (fatal) condition…
Hailed as the first ‘modern’ opera, Gluck’s gorgeous music expresses a love powerful enough to inspire Euridice with the breath of life, but not with a spirit of trust. Does this weakness condemn her? Or does love triumph? Opera Theater’s production takes a contemporary look at a haunting classic set in a magnificent yet intimate space.
