Singers and Pianists Audition Repertoire
Each singer should bring 3 contrasting arias, one of which must be in English. Each candidate will begin with the aria of his or her choice and the next selection(s) will be chosen by an Opera Theater representative. Each pianist should bring 2 contrasting opera accompaniments and 1 performance piece. Pianists should be prepared to sight-read. All audition slots will be 8 minutes. An accompanist will be provided at each audition, though candidates are free to bring their own.
What the judges are looking for: The judges will expect to hear performers with fine voices, technique, musicianship and sense of style across a range of repertoire. The judges will also look for versatile artists who present fully, appropriately acted performances of their material. You should choose repertoire appropriate for your vocal, acting, and age type and range. You need to be able to convince the judges that you are "right" for the roles you are portraying and that you understand the dramatic context and musical idiom of each of your selections.
